About the accounts workshops
Following the past successes of our national final accounts workshops, we are holding a series of workshops for NHS staff involved in the preparation of financial statements for 2009/10.
The aims of the workshops are to help NHS bodies achieve a smooth and trouble-free final accounts and audit process through:
- sharing with delegates key issues affecting the preparation of financial statements
- giving consistent messages to NHS bodies about the completion of the financial statements audit
What will we cover?
Key issues from 2008/09 and the lessons that can be learned for 2009/10
Audits of financial statements and IFRS restatements for 2008/09 have highlighted a number of ongoing and emerging accounting and compliance issues including:
- legal charges
- LIFT/PFI - valuation and guidance issues
We will discuss these and share lessons for the future.
Changes to the financial reporting framework for 2009/10
2009 /10 sees the implementation of a number of changes to the financial reporting framework. We will outline the key changes and their impact on the 2009/10 financial statements.
Key changes include:
- changes to financial performance notes
- directors' report and quality accounts in annual reports
Future accounting issues
We will also look ahead to other expected developments for 2010/11 and beyond:
- consolidation of charitable funds
- changes in IFRSs
