National indicator set information portal launched
The national indicator set (NIS) information portal is now available. It provides online access to the latest definitions, frequently asked questions (FAQs) and clarifications for each of the national indicators in one place. The portal provides a facility to view or create a document that combines all the information for each indicator in one place.

2010 Place Survey consultation launched
Communities and Local Government have written to all local authority chief executives and Place Survey primary contacts to outline the current plans for the 2010 Place Survey. CLG have also launched a short web-based consultation exercise about the Place Survey. The closing date for responses is 10 May 2010.

Updates to NIS following 2010 Budget
Following the 2010 Budget, 18 indicators (10% of the current NIS) will be removed from the NIS from 1st April 2010. This is in line with commitments made in the Putting the frontline first: Smarter government (external link) to remove indicators that were no longer relevant or needed. Further detail and FAQs can be found in CLG's Smarter Government (external link) paper.
A history of changes to the content to the NIS since its introduction in April 2008 is detailed in the National Indicator Set guidance.

Performance Indicators updated on Oneplace and the Area Information Profile
The Area Information team updated a number of national indicators and other national data on Oneplace (external link) on the 18 March 2010 and on the Area Information Profile on the 19 March 2010. The updates provide more recent data for indicators that are already included in Oneplace and the Area Information Profile. You can see which indicators have been updated by going to the 'About the data in this profile' section of the Area Information Profile. You can access the profile from the Audit Commission's extranet site.

Timetable for submitting NIS directly to the hub
CLG have published the timetable for the 2009/10 NIs to be collected directly on the hub. The timetable can be accessed on the hub newspage (external site).
