The government has announced that Comprehensive Area Assessment is to be abolished. The details and timing are yet to be announced.
Background
Before the introduction of comprehensive area assessment (CAA) in April 2009, the we assessed the delivery of services by local authorities through comprehensive performance assessment (CPA). From 2002, we published an overall annual CPA rating of the performance of each local authority. CPA informed improvement planning at each local authority.
Alongside CPA, and now CAA, our programme of audit work continues, with the results of annual use of resources assessments contributing to our CAA reporting.
