Learning and good practice

A key part of our role is to capture and share learning and good practice. This is important in programmes like Housing Market Renewal (HMR) where, implicit in the selection of areas to be 'pathfinders' was that lessons would be learned and passed on to others.

These pages contain more than 60 examples of innovation and good practice in regenerating communities. They're grouped into twelve themes with detailed case studies and contact details for further advice and information.

The case studies were reviewed by a panel including senior practitioners and academics in regeneration and housing market renewal. They aim to capture how an issue was dealt with, its development and outputs and how it might be replicated.

Links to technical documents and web pages are provided, as well as contact details for those interested in pursuing particular approaches.

The applicability to other areas will need to be assessed by other organisations wishing to learn from this resource. It should be remembered that activities in each theme are not occurring in isolation and many are complimentary and dependant on activity in other themes for increased likelihood of success.

While these studies don't cover every aspect of pathfinder's activity, or all possible examples, we consider that these represent a good range and starting point to enable others to learn from the market renewal approach. Lessons are also regularly disseminated in our periodic housing market renewal bulletins.

We hope that these case studies prove useful in informing policy and interventions at strategic and operational levels. These pages will be updated periodically and you can help us to improve them by completing our short feedback form.

If you have any comments or you would like more information you can contact the Audit Commission's Housing Markets Renewal Team at housingmarkets@audit-commission.gov.uk.
