Health

We audit NHS trusts, PCTs and strategic health authorities to review the quality of their financial systems. We also provide services to foundation trusts and those aspiring to become foundation trusts through our Trust Practice.

We publish independent reports highlighting risks and good practice to improve the quality of financial management in the health service and encourage continual improvement in public services including public health and health inequalities.

Since 2007 we have looked at over £200 million of payments as part of the Payment by Results data assurance programme. Our report, ‘Improving data quality in the NHS’ summarises the programme results.

We have produced and submitted two reports to the Department of Health reviewing reference costs: the average cost to the NHS of providing a defined service in a given financial year.
