Auditors' Local Evaluation 2007/08 - October 2008
Audit Commission's third annual ALE report which shows an overall picture of financial improvement for many NHS organisations in 2007/08. NEDs can compare their PCT's score against all other PCTs.
To complement the launch of the 2007/08 Auditors' Local Evaluation report, we have have added financial management notable practice case studies to our website.

Review of NHS ISA (UK and I) 260 Reports - February 2009
This report sets out the findings of the Audit Commission's analysis of financial reporting issues detailed by auditors in the 2007/08 ISA 260 (annual governance) reports. This review identifies common financial reporting issues and helps to identify areas which are a potential risk in financial management and budgeting terms.

Financial Management in the NHS - December 2008
Audit Commission and National Audit Office jointly prepared report providing a commentary on the financial position of the NHS as a whole and considering the financial management issues facing NHS bodies. The report focuses on the overall surplus that was achieved in 2007/08 (£1.67 billion), the action taken by the Dept of Health and NHS bodies to achieve it, as well as providing an overview of the financial management arrangements.

Learning the lessons from financial failure in the NHS - July 2006
Audit Commission report focusing on the small minority of NHS trusts and PCTs, which have experienced significant, and in some cases rapid, financial failure.
This report includes a set of recommendations for Boards.

Improving medium-term financial planning: A practical guide for primary care trusts - March 2008
Audit Commission briefing providing a commentary on current PCT performance in medium-term financial planning. It gives detailed guidance for PCTs to use as necessary and is intended to encourage PCTs to prioritise medium-term financial planning.
This report includes a set of key questions for NEDs.

Primary Care Trust Accounts: A guide for non-executives - April 2010
Joint Audit Commission and Healthcare Financial Management Association guide to help NEDs understand and, more importantly, draw conclusions and ask pertinent questions about the PCT's accounts. This has been updated to include the changes to the accounts following the introduction of IFRS.
