Value for all: Diversity and equality scheme 2009-12

We are pleased to present the Audit Commission's equality and diversity scheme 2009-12, 'Value for all'. Implementing our previous three-year diversity scheme has helped us develop the ways in which we consider equality and diversity when we are auditing and assessing local public services, and how well we manage our workforce. The new scheme sets out our ambitions for the next three years, building and improving on our achievements so far.

'Value for All' focuses on the relationship between equality and diversity and value for money which is the core business of the Audit Commission. Well-designed, efficient, value-for-money services recognise that while everyone has the same basic needs, if services are to be effective, some people need them to be delivered differently. Failure to understand and address these points can lead to poorly designed services that are inefficient and ineffective, often costing local taxpayers more in the long run.

As well as drawing on our learning from our previous scheme, 'Value for all' has been influenced by the involvement of and consultation with a wide range of stakeholders. This involvement and consultation has been invaluable in ensuring that our new scheme delivers the improvements that we want to see both internally and externally in our work with local pubic services.
